Spain Publishes New and Emerging Health Technology Fact Sheets Across Multiple Clinical Areas in October 2026
In October 2026, the Canary Islands Healthcare Evaluation Service (SESCS), working within the Spanish Network of Health Technology Assessment Agencies (RedETS), published several New and Emerging Health Technology Fact Sheets covering a range of medical technologies and diagnostic approaches.
The Fact Sheets are intended to support the identification and prioritization of emerging technologies for potential evaluation by RedETS. They contain preliminary information considered necessary for prioritization and do not constitute comprehensive HTA reports. Consequently, they are not intended to guide healthcare policy decisions or clinical practice.
The October publications cover several clinical areas, including gastrointestinal, gynecological, pulmonological, neurovascular interventions, diagnostic imaging, and in vitro diagnostics.
Examples of technologies addressed include:
- Neurovascular interventions: Repeated stent-assisted aspiration thrombectomy for patients with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis;
- Gynecology: Transcervical intrauterine ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of cystic adenomyosis;
- Gastrointestinal: Vacuum-assisted self-expanding stents intended to reduce complications following colorectal resections;
- Diagnostic imaging and pathology: Stimulated Raman histology (SRH) for rapid pathological examination of testicular biopsies to determine the presence of seminoma.
What does it mean for the industry?
The publication of these Fact Sheets provides an early indication of technologies being considered in Spain's HTA prioritization process. While they do not represent formal assessments or reimbursement decisions, they highlight emerging technologies that may be considered for future evaluation by RedETS.
Manufacturers of the relevant technologies should review the relevant Fact Sheets to understand how their technologies are characterized and to consider the potential implications for future HTA activities and market access strategies in Spain. Further developments will depend on subsequent prioritization and assessment decisions.
