Breast reconstruction

In August 2026, the Spanish Network of HTA Agencies published the annual List of New and Emerging Technologies for 2025. The evaluations of a total of 66 technologies, covering multiple areas such as cardiovascular, diagnostic imaging, e-Health, endoscopy, gastrointestinal, in-vitro diagnostics, interventional radiology, men’s health, urology, neurology and neurosurgery, neuromodulation, neurovascular, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonary, radiotherapy, spine, and surgical procedures, have been assigned for evaluation to the relevant HTA bodies.

On July 30, 2026, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (OFS) released the systematic version of the Swiss Classification of Surgical Interventions (CHOP) for 2027. The CHOP classification is now available in German and will come into force on January 1, 2027. Multiple new procedure codes were introduced in various fields, including digital therapeutics, endoscopy, gastrointestinal, obstetrics and gynecology, nephrology and urology, men's health, neuromodulation, orthopedics, and peripheral vascular.

In April 2026, two HTA agencies working under the Spanish Network of HTA Agencies (RedETS) released several New and Emerging Health Technology Fact Sheets in cardiovascular, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, e-health, in-vitro diagnostics, men’s health, obstetrics and gynecology, peripheral vascular, robotic surgery and some other fields. The purpose of the Fact Sheets is to inform the prioritization of new and emerging technologies for evaluation by RedETS.

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the December 2024 meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). Three favorable opinions were published concerning the registration of new medical devices in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR). They relate to breast reconstruction and medical aids.

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the November 2024 meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). On October 10, 2024, the Clinical Coding and Schedule Development (CCSD) working group, which develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclatures for private payers in England, published Bulletins 198 and 094 with changes to be implemented no later than December 5, 2024. Fifty-two new procedure codes related to ENT, gastrointestinal, men’s health, urology, neurology and neurosurgery, gynecology, orthopedics, robotic surgery, and surgical procedures areas, and two new diagnostic codes were introduced.

In July 2024, the Dutch Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) awarded thirteen projects under the 2025 round of the Efficiency Research program, including one project on e-health, one project on extracorporeal treatments, one project in orthopedics, one project in neurology, one project in urology, two projects in obstetrics and gynecology, one project in radiotherapy and one project in the cardiovascular area.

On June 18, 2024, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health published the changes that will occur to the Services Ordinance (KLV/OPre), which determines coverage of medical services in Switzerland. The updates will enter into force on July 1, 2024, and they relate to the list of explicitly evaluated services (Annex 1 of KLV/OPre), outpatient-before-hospital services (Annex 1a), List of Tools and Equipment (Annex 2), and List of Analyses (Annex 3).

On May 07, 2024, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (ZIN) published the updated list of medical procedures reimbursed under basic health insurance with restrictions or limitations. The additional indications for autologous fat transplantation after a total breast removal were newly introduced to the list.

The HTA body of the Tuscany Regional Healthcare issues three types of documents: full HTA reports, rapid HTA reports, and motivational forms. With regional decree 6700 of March 27, 2024, Tuscany Regional Healthcare published three new assessments and one re-assessment of medical devices in the cardiovascular, men’s health, nephrology and urology, and surgical procedures areas.
