The 2027 version of the Swiss Classification of Surgical Procedures

On July 30, 2026, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (OFS) released the systematic version of the Swiss Classification of Surgical Interventions (CHOP) for 2027. The CHOP Classification is updated annually. 

The German version of the CHOP Classification is now available. French and Italian versions are expected to be available by the end of October 2026.

The CHOP 2027 will come into force on January 1, 2027, with multiple (more than five hundred) new procedure codes introduced in various fields, including digital therapeutics, endoscopy, obstetrics and gynecology, nephrology and urology, men's health, neuromodulation, surgical procedures, and others.

As part of the structural nomenclature revision, multiple new codes were introduced for hemodialysis, hemofiltration, and hemodiafiltration; joint replacements; gastric surgery; and peripheral vascular procedures.

Some examples of newly introduced procedure codes are provided below:

  • Code 00.9G "Application of digital therapeutic procedures", to be used as a supplementary code combination with specific treatment or rehabilitation procedure codes;
  • Codes 42.99.51, 44.99.B1, 46.99.A1, and 48.99.80 for the endoscopic insertion or replacement of a self-expanding vacuum prosthesis in the esophagus, stomach, intestine, and rectum, respectively;
  • Codes 60.95.1- for transurethral dilatation of a prostatic urethra with a balloon, with or without drug release, respectively;
  • Code 93.70.31 "Initial insertion of a pharyngeal electrical stimulation probe [PES]";
  • Code 75.G1 "Antenatal induction of lung maturation [aLM]";
  • Codes 88.42.12 “Thoracic aortography” and 88.42.13 “Abdominal aortography”’;
  • Codes 85.K6.14 "Revision of skin-muscle and skin-fat flap reconstruction on the breast with a partial removal of the flap" and 85.K6.15 "Revision of skin-muscle and skin-fat flap reconstruction on the breast with a removal of the entire flap".
