Norway Releases 2027 Procedure Coding System with 23 New Codes Across Multiple Specialties
On 7 October 2026, the Norwegian Directorate of Health published the 2027 edition of the Norwegian Clinical Procedure Coding system (Norsk klinisk prosedyrekodeverk, NKPK).
The NKPK comprises three coding classifications:
- NCMP: Medical procedures;
- NCSP: Surgical procedures;
- NCRP: Radiological procedures.
The 2027 update introduces 23 new procedure codes, effective from 1 January 2027, covering several clinical and technological areas.
The additions include:
- Eight medical procedure codes (NCMP) covering eHealth, neuromodulation and dermatology. Examples include actigraphy, high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (hf-rTMS) and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for wounds.
- Ten surgical procedure codes (NCSP) covering endoscopy, gastrointestinal procedures and gynecology. Examples include endoscopic full-thickness resection of the colon and vaginal hysterectomy with transvaginal endoscopy.
- Five radiological procedure codes (NCRP) relating to X-ray and CT myelography.
In addition to the new codes, several existing codes have been revised, and six codes have been discontinued.
What does it mean for the industry?
The 2027 NKPK update introduces more specific coding options for selected procedures, including those involving neuromodulation, advanced endoscopy and other medical technologies.
For manufacturers, these changes may improve the identification and reporting of procedures involving their technologies. Manufacturers should evaluate whether the new, revised or discontinued codes affect existing reimbursement arrangements and market access conditions for their technologies from January 2027.
