New outpatient procedures received analogous coding in August 2026 in Switzerland
In the Swiss outpatient tariff system, missing or undefined service positions can be submitted for inclusion in the tariff structures. The tariff partners assess whether the service should be included and whether it can already be billed using analogous coding.
For services assigned analogous coding, an existing LKAAT code should be used for billing (analogous code), whereas a reserve code, initially available in the LKAAT without a medical description, is used for documentation.
The Organization for Outpatient Physician Tariffs (OAAT), responsible for developing and maintaining the Swiss outpatient reimbursement system, maintains the list of analogous code assignments.
On August 18, 2026, several additional assignments became valid. The examples of procedures covered by the update include:
- MRI-guided biopsies, including MR-guided breast biopsy;
- Use of an operating room robot;
- Additional diagnostic CT and MR examinations during hybrid PET/CT and PET/MR scans.
