Publication Digest: Methods for Evaluation of Surrogate Endpoints for Health Technology Assessment Decision Making: A Good Practices Report of an ISPOR Task Force

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Publications Digest.

In a recent publication, Bujkiewicz et al. developed an ISPOR Task Force good-practice report on methods for evaluating surrogate endpoints in health technology assessment decision-making. The report provides practical recommendations on how to validate surrogate endpoints and apply them in economic models, covering biological plausibility, individual-level surrogacy, and trial-level surrogacy.

The key findings emphasize the use of multivariate meta-analysis, cautious integration of real-world data, and transparent uncertainty analyses to support more reliable cost-effectiveness assessments when clinical benefit is inferred through surrogate outcomes.
