The G-BA Innovation Committee recommends transfer to standard care for the other completed projects in Germany

On May 22, 2026, the Innovation Committee of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the decisions recommending the transfer of several other completed projects on new forms of care and healthcare research to standard care.

Details on two completed projects are provided below.

The “Value-based TKR – Value-based Total Knee Replacement” project developed a digital decision support tool for knee replacement indications in patients with gonarthrosis, combining evidence-based criteria with patients’ individual expectations. The evaluation demonstrated a positive impact on decision quality. Although further refinement and implementation planning are needed, the tool provides a standardized, guideline-based approach to clinical decision-making and will be shared with relevant bodies of the G-BA for consideration.

The “ElektRA – Elective Promotion of Rational Antibiotic Therapy” project evaluated three interventions to improve antibiotic prescribing in general practices with above-average prescription rates: prescription feedback, an online training course, and peer-moderated training sessions. While the reduction in prescribing was more modest than expected, participants particularly valued the training sessions. The Innovation Committee has asked the relevant statutory health insurance and physician organizations to assess whether elements of these approaches could be incorporated into future contractual and quality improvement measures.
