Ongoing HTAs at IACS in Spain as of July 2026

In Spain, health technology assessment is implemented at the national, regional, and hospital levels. The Spanish Network of Health Technology Assessment Agencies (RedETS) coordinates the activities of seven regional HTA bodies and the national agency (Carlos III Health Institute). Health technology assessment plays a role in the adoption of medical technologies at the hospital and regional level and as an input to national coverage decisions (where relevant).

As of July 2026, one of the regional HTA bodies, the Aragon Institute of Health Sciences (IACS), is working on several assessments. These include evaluations in diagnostic imaging, digital health, and in-vitro diagnostics, such as:

  • Artificial intelligence for echocardiogram assessment;
  • Evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and cost-efficiency of comprehensive telemonitoring systems for patients hospitalized at home;
  • Determination of biomarkers in serum or plasma after a mild traumatic brain injury, including the glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1), and S100 protein.
