Denmark Introduces 11 New Procedure Codes in October 2026 SKS Update

The Danish Health Data Authority (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen) published the latest quarterly update to the Health Care Classification System (Sundhedsvæsenets Klassifikations System, SKS) in mid-October 2026, effective from 1 October 2026.

The SKS is Denmark's national classification system used to standardize the registration and reporting of healthcare activities, including medical and surgical procedures.

The October 2026 update introduces 11 new procedure codes, including:

  • Two surgical procedure codes in ENT and obstetrics. One example concerns the use of a balloon for an impacted fetal head before a cesarean section.
  • Nine medical procedure codes, including two new codes for leadless pacemaker implantation: one for implantation in the ventricle and another for implantation involving both the ventricle and atrium. Previously, the existing code specified atrial implantation only.

What does it mean for the industry?

The October 2026 SKS update introduces more specific coding options for selected medical and surgical procedures, including leadless pacemaker implantation and obstetric interventions.

For manufacturers, these changes may improve the identification and reporting of procedures involving their technologies. Manufacturers should evaluate whether the new codes affect existing reimbursement arrangements and market access conditions for their products in Denmark.
