Germany increases budget for human genetic testing in 2026

On September 3, 2026, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) announced an increase in funding for human genetic diagnostic services reimbursed through the EBM catalog. The decision was adopted by the Evaluation Committee following the completion of its annual review of the volume of development in human genetic services.

August 2026 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In August 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England published five Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, concerning craniectomy in acute subdural hematoma, blood-test monitoring strategies for patients on immunosuppressants, home-testing devices for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, an electronic frailty index, and chronic wound dressing.

Italy sets annual €10 million transplant fund allocation, including €7 million for medical devices

On August 28, 2026, the Italian Official Gazette published a decree setting the criteria and methods for allocating €10 million annually from 2025 to transplantation activities. Of the total, €7 million per year is earmarked for medical devices used for organ perfusion and for the preservation, transport, and management of organs and tissues, while €3 million supports measures to reduce transplant waiting lists.
