Updates in the coverage of medical services in Switzerland in July 2026
On June 9, 2026, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health published changes to the Healthcare Benefit Ordinance (KLV/OPre), which determines coverage of medical services in Switzerland. The following updates will enter into force on July 1, 2026:
- Changes in KLV relating to the first-trimester preeclampsia screening, prophylactic vaccinations, and other matters.
- Changes in Annex 1 KLV (List of explicitly evaluated services), such as granting definitive coverage to several technologies, including the multigene expression test for breast cancer, and extension of Coverage with Evidence Development for several technologies, including the focused ultrasound therapy of severe chronic therapy-resistant neuropathic pain.
- Changes in Annex 1a KLV (outpatient-before-inpatient policy), which will expand the outpatient mandate to certain shoulder surgeries and hydrocele treatment.
- Changes in Annex 2 of the Healthcare Benefit Ordinance (List of Medical Aids, MiGeL), such as the adjustment of the reimbursement conditions for health apps.
- Changes in Annex 3 of the Healthcare Benefit Ordinance (List of Analyses, AL), including tariff reduction for the ten highest-grossing laboratory analyses and the introduction of a new code for the determination of the Placental Growth Factor (PlGF) for the first-trimester preeclampsia screening.
