2026 RedETS working plan published in Spain

On April 9, 2026, the Spanish Network of HTA Agencies (RedETS) published the 2026 working plan for health technology assessments. The plan includes a wide range of topics in cardiovascular, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, e-health, endocrine, endoscopy, gastrointestinal, ICU/OR, in-vitro diagnostics, neurology and neurosurgery, neuromodulation, ophthalmology, radiology, robotic surgery, and some other fields.

March 2026 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In March 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released five Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned eye screening programs in diabetes, surgical and non-surgical splint treatment for finger fractures, diagnostic strategies for ovarian cancer, biomarkers for outcomes prediction in adults with suspected sepsis, and diagnostic tools of peripheral arterial disease in diabetes.

The revised EBM catalog for the second quarter of 2026 published in Germany

On April 1, 2026, the revised EBM (German Uniform Evaluation Standard) catalog for the second quarter of 2026 came into force. The EBM catalog is used to reimburse day case and outpatient services under the fee-for-service model. National Cancer Framework Program 2026-2035 presented in Austria

On January 30, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK) and Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG) jointly presented the National Cancer Framework Program 2026-2035. It serves as a strategic compass, setting the direction for cancer control and care in Austria over the next ten years, although it is not legally binding. The Program comprises four areas of action, 22 objectives, and 113 measures.

December 2025 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In December 2025, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released three Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned endoscopic treatments for obesity, whole-genome sequencing for rare diseases in newborn screening, and a tele-ophthalmology-enabled and artificial intelligence-ready referral pathway for community optometry referrals of retinal disease.

Call for comments on evidence for bladder cancer population screening in the UK

On November 17, 2025, the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) launched a consultation on the 2025 evidence map relating to population screening for bladder cancer, which is not currently recommended in the UK. The evidence review found no substantial new evidence to change existing recommendations or commissioning further evidence synthesis work. The topic should be reconsidered by the UK NSC in three years. Organizations and the public are invited to submit comments until February 9, 2026.

Call for comments regarding population screening for dementia in the UK

On June 17, 2025, the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) opened a public consultation on the updated evidence review regarding population screening for dementia in adults. The 2025 review concludes that there is still insufficient evidence to support the introduction of a national screening programme. Stakeholders are invited to submit comments by September 9, 2025.

Updates in the coverage of medical services in Switzerland in 2025

On June 10, 2025, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health published updates to the Healthcare Benefit Ordinance (KLV/OPre), which determines coverage of medical services in Switzerland. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, and relate to colorectal cancer screening with the increase in the number of reimbursed colonoscopies, cancer treatment, men’s health, medical aids, and other medical services.
