Ongoing HTAs by Skåne University Hospital in Sweden as of July 2026

Sweden has several regional HTA units that provide evidence-based assessments to support healthcare decision-making at the regional level. Although HTA recommendations are generally not mandatory for hospitals, they can have a meaningful impact on clinical practice, particularly because clinicians typically place strong emphasis on scientific evidence.

HTA findings may also inform coverage and prioritization recommendations issued by regional Methods and Priority Councils, which operate in several Swedish regions, including Skåne.

As of July 2026, HTA South at Skåne University Hospital is working on four health technology assessments. MedTech-related topics include the following:

  • An assessment of the scientific evidence on self-dialysis and home-based dialysis treatment, including health economic analyses from a societal perspective and an impact analysis;
  • Autofluorescence for intraoperative identification and preservation of parathyroid glands in thyroid surgery;
  • Spinal cord stimulation in the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain.
