Ongoing HTAs by the Swedish SBU as of September 2026
The Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) is a government authority that conducts independent evaluations of methods and interventions used in healthcare, dental care, and social services. In addition, it reviews research related to functional status and disability, as well as the role of the work environment in the development of disease.
As of September 2026, the SBU is working on 23 projects, including the following health technology assessments related to MedTech:
- Diagnostics for suspected endometriosis. The aim is to identify and assess systematic reviews of diagnostic approaches, including high-resolution transvaginal ultrasound and emerging methods such as liquid biopsy biomarkers in saliva or blood, as well as artificial intelligence and machine-learning approaches. Publication is expected in the second quarter of 2027;
- Newborn screening for mucopolysaccharidosis type 1 (MPS-1). SBU is assessing the reliability of the MPS-1 test within the national newborn screening program. Publication is expected in the third quarter of 2026;
- Diagnostic accuracy of different index tests for the diagnosis of food allergies. The assessment considers the sensitivity and specificity of different diagnostic tests for suspected food allergies. Publication is expected in the third quarter of 2026;
- Diagnostic accuracy of different index tests for suspected peanut allergies. The assessment will compare the diagnostic accuracy of specific IgE based on whole-peanut extract, skin prick testing, and component testing for Ara h 1, Ara h 2, Ara h 3, and Ara h 8 in children and adults. Publication is expected in the second quarter of 2027;
