The 2027 DRG (LKF) model was announced in Austria

On June 29, 2026, the document "Changes and innovations in the 2027 LKF model" (Änderungen und Neuerungen in den LKF-Modellen 2027) was published. The document summarizes the most significant changes and innovations in the LKF model for inpatient and outpatient care.

The key updates involve adding 18 new procedure codes, introducing five procedure codes for billing in day-case settings, updating case flat rates, and adjusting the calculation of cases' daily and procedural components. No new DRGs are planned for introduction. Also, one new provisional code (NUB) is planned.

The new procedure codes mainly concern cardiovascular procedures, diagnostic imaging, e-Health, neuromodulation, and surgical procedures. Examples include implantation of a system for telemedicine monitoring of pulmonary arterial pressure, intravascular imaging of peripheral vessels, use of biological or synthetic skin substitutes, and implantation of a personalized external aortic root support (PEARS).

The 2027 LKF model is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2027.
