MTRC Team Co-Authors New Health Economic Paper on Diagnostic Strategies for Suspected Community-Acquired Pneumonia
The MTRC team has co-authored a new health economic publication on diagnostic strategies for suspected community-acquired pneumonia in adults. The paper evaluates the clinical and economic consequences of adding MeMed BV to standard of care in emergency departments in France and Spain.
The study used a cost-consequence analysis based on a decision-tree model for a hypothetical cohort of 1,000 adults with suspected community-acquired pneumonia and low-to-moderate disease severity. Two strategies were compared: standard of care (SOC) and SOC plus MeMed BV, a host-response test designed to help distinguish between bacterial and viral infections.
The results suggest that adding MeMed BV to SOC for adults with suspected CAP in emergency departments can be cost-saving for public payers in France and Spain. In the model, SOC + MeMed BV reduced costs by approximately €220 per patient in France and €200 in Spain, driven by fewer additional diagnostic tests, fewer unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions, and fewer hospital admissions.
