Ongoing assessments by the HTA Center of Västra Götaland Region in Sweden as of June 2026

Sweden has several regional HTA units that provide evidence-based assessments to support decision-making at the regional level. In general, HTA recommendations are not mandatory for hospitals to follow. However, they can have a meaningful impact on clinical practice, as healthcare decisions in Sweden are typically evidence-based.

As of June 2026, the HTA Center of Västra Götaland Region is working on six health technology assessments, including the following:

  • Radiofrequency ablation as a treatment method for uterine fibroids;
  • The health economic benefit of performing an EEG (electroencephalography) examination in all adult patients after a first unprovoked epileptic seizure;
  • Radiofrequency therapy for the treatment of long-term nociceptive joint pain;
  • Delivery with a low-lying placenta and vaginal birth, and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage;
  • sFlt-1 and PlGF testing in the diagnosis of preeclampsia.
