Establishing Digital Health Denmark
Denmark is in the process of establishing a new national organization, Digital Health Denmark, as part of a healthcare reform to strengthen digital development and coherence across the health sector. The organization will merge Danish Health Data Authority, sundhed.dk, MedCom, the National Genome Center, and several shared national tasks from the regions. A few selected functions and regulatory responsibilities within the Danish Health Data Authority will remain with the Ministry of the Interior and Health.
Digital Health Denmark will be jointly owned by municipalities, regions, and the state, and will be governed by a board appointed by the owners in the second half of 2026.
The aim of Digital Health Denmark is to improve the use of health data, strengthen digital infrastructure, and accelerate the deployment of shared digital solutions across the healthcare system.
A preparatory phase is ongoing in 2026 under the central management structure referred to as Preparatory Digital Health Denmark, with full establishment planned for January 1, 2027.
This also entails that sundhed.dk, the Danish Health Data Authority, and MedCom will cease to exist as independent organizations on December 31, 2026.
