Between January 1 and June 1, 2026, seven MedTech-related mini-HTAs were initiated in Norway across orthopedics, neurology and rehabilitation, in vitro diagnostics, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging, and e-health. These assessments are conducted as part of Norway’s framework for the managed introduction of innovations, known as “New Methods”.

On May 18, 2026, the Decision Forum for “New Methods” updated its coverage decision for molecular gene profile analysis using Oncotype DX. The test, which has been covered since 2024 for postmenopausal patients with lymph node-positive HR-positive, HER2-negative, early-stage invasive breast cancer, will now also be covered for patients with lymph node-negative breast cancer.

On May 22, 2026, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version (v.80) of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system, along with associated tariffs, for both state and private laboratories. A total of 23 new codes were added in the biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology fields.

On May 1, 2026, a new process for handling medical devices (including in vitro diagnostics and AI-based devices) within the Norwegian “New Methods” framework entered into force. Three entry pathways into the framework were implemented, including through manufacturer requests. Selection criteria were clarified to define which devices must be considered within the framework.

In late March 2026, Norway’s “New Methods” framework announced a revised process for managing medical technologies (i.e., medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics, procedures), effective May 1, 2026. The update introduces new entry pathways, application process, prioritization criteria, and procedural changes such as early assessment and implementation meetings. Medical device companies are invited to a digital information session on April 17, 2026, with registration required by April 14, 2026.

On March 23, 2026, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version (v.79) of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system, along with associated tariffs, for both state and private laboratories. A total of 63 new codes were added in the biochemistry, microbiology, clinical pharmacology, and immunology fields.

In March 2026, the Decision Forum for the "New Methods" framework made a favorable coverage decision for intermittent negative pressure therapy (FlowOx) for conditions related to reduced blood circulation in the extremities

In January 2026, the evaluation phase of the “New Methods” framework was completed for real-time and intermittently scanned (flash) continuous glucose monitoring in type 2 diabetes. As the recommendations from HTA are now available, the Decision Forum needs to make a coverage decision for these technologies.

On November 23, 2025, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version (v.78) of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system, along with associated tariffs, for both state and private laboratories. A total of 42 new codes were added in the biochemistry, microbiology, clinical pharmacology, and immunology fields.

In late October 2025, the Decision Forum for the "New Methods" framework made a favorable coverage decision for magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgFUS, ExAblate Neuro by Insightec) for the treatment of essential tremor.

In October 2025, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released a preliminary version of the DRG system (Innsatsstyrt finansiering, ISF) for 2026. In general, no significant changes were made in the system. Two new DRGs will be added in 2026 concerning cell therapy and radiotherapy.

In October 2025, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released the Norwegian Clinical Procedure Coding (NKPK) system for 2026. A total of 16 new codes were introduced concerning cardiovascular, interventional radiology, pulmonology, gynecology, radiology, and endoscopy fields.
