NABM update sets regular reimbursement for two NGS panels in France

On June 2, 2026, the Decision of the National Union of Health Insurance Funds (UNCAM) updating the Nomenclature of Medical Biology Procedures (NABM) was released. The NABM is France’s primary permanent reimbursement catalog for in-vitro diagnostic tests covered under statutory health insurance. The update introduces regular reimbursement for four new codes, including two next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels that were previously covered temporarily under the innovative payment scheme (RIHN framework).

NHS Cancer Programme Innovation Open Call 4 Announced in England

In June 2026, NHS England announced the fourth round of its NHS Cancer Program Innovation Open Call funding competition. The call is seeking innovations that address two key challenges: improving productivity by managing demand or increasing capacity across cancer care pathways, and driving earlier detection and diagnosis of cancer. Update to the List of Innovative Procedures Outside the Nomenclature in France

In April 2026, the French Ministry of Health published an update to the 2026 List of Innovative Procedures Outside the Nomenclature (LAHN), which includes innovative IVD tests temporarily funded under the RIHN framework. The update introduced two new “duplicative” codes in the field of cytogenetics that are exempt from the tariff reduction mechanism.

The first IVD device included for coverage under the renewed RIHN 2.0 framework in France

On April 16, 2026, the French Ministry of Health announced the inclusion of the first in vitro diagnostic medical device under the reformed RIHN 2.0, designed to support innovative diagnostics through temporary reimbursement while evidence is generated. The selected technology is VisioCyt Bladder, an AI-assisted digital urine cytology, indicated for monitoring recurrence in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. This marks a key milestone in the implementation of the updated framework.

Funding call for evidence generation on NICE early use technologies in England

On April 8, 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) launched a funding opportunity to support the generation of real-world evidence for technologies recommended through NICE early use guidance. Outline applications should be submitted by May 27, 2026. Successful applicants will then be invited to submit a full application, with the final funding decision expected in December 2026.

Changes in coverage of IVD tests under the RIHN innovative funding framework in France

On December 31, 2025, the Ministry of Health, Family, Autonomy, and People with Disabilities published a Decree, amending the conditions of temporary coverage for innovative IVD tests via the RIHN framework (included in the List of Innovative Procedures Outside the Nomenclature, LAHN). Changes include extending the maximum duration of transitional coverage from five to nine years and lowering the annual tariff reductions from 20% to 10%. The LAHN 2026 was also released, reflecting the changes introduced by a Decree.

First device obtained regular reimbursement after the pre-LPPR scheme in France

On December 19, 2025, an order was issued registering the Symplicity Spyral renal denervation catheter in Title V of the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR), enabling add-on reimbursement for medical devices used in hospital settings. The Symplicity Spyral received a positive opinion for LPPR registration in December 2023, following transitional coverage under the French innovative payment scheme known as pre-LPPR since December 2022.

A new coverage with evidence development scheme is expected in the Netherlands

In October 2025, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (ZIN) published the plan for implementing the program, “Reimbursement within Research,” which allows temporary reimbursement under basic health insurance during the research period for existing medical specialist care and medical devices with limited evidence of effectiveness. The Minister of Health, Welfare, and Sport will consider the ZIN implementation plan and decide whether to initiate the program. If the decision is positive, the program's launch is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Applications for Medical Specialist Care and Research program are now open in the Netherlands

In September-October 2025, the Dutch Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) opened the submission of applications for another two rounds of the Medical Specialist Care and Research (MedZO) program. The applications deadline for “Line 1: Appropriate and efficient care - Round 2” is December 2, 2025; for “Preparatory implementation activities Round 2 - specialist medical care” - December 9, 2025.

French National Authority for Health released the evaluation principles for digital medical devices

On September 10, 2025, the French National Authority for Health (HAS) published its evaluation principles for the reimbursement of digital medical devices via the list of medical telemonitoring activities (LATM) and advanced reimbursement for therapeutic and telemonitoring digital medical devices (PECAN). The HAS has also updated evaluation principles for reimbursement of medical devices for individual use via the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR), Intra-DRG (Intra-GHS) List, and transitional support (PECT).
