Germany increases budget for human genetic testing in 2026
On September 3, 2026, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) announced an increase in funding for human genetic diagnostic services reimbursed through the EBM catalog. The decision was adopted by the Evaluation Committee following the completion of its annual review of the volume of development in human genetic services.
As a result, an additional €29.4 million will be made available for human genetic diagnostics in 2026 within the morbidity-based total remuneration (MGV).
The funding increase follows a 2020 decision by the Evaluation Committee requiring the MGV allocated to human genetic services to be reviewed and adjusted annually over a five-year period. 2026 represents the final year of this scheduled review and adjustment process.
