Initiated mini-HTAs in Norway in the first half of 2026

Between January 1 and June 1, 2026, seven MedTech-related mini-HTAs were initiated in Norway across orthopedics, neurology and rehabilitation, in vitro diagnostics, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging, and e-health. These assessments are conducted as part of Norway’s framework for the managed introduction of innovations, known as “New Methods”.

In May 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published two new Early Use HealthTech Guidances (HTGs) on digital technologies to support self-management of asthma and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted technologies for echocardiography analysis and reporting in heart failure.

March 2026 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In March 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released five Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned eye screening programs in diabetes, surgical and non-surgical splint treatment for finger fractures, diagnostic strategies for ovarian cancer, biomarkers for outcomes prediction in adults with suspected sepsis, and diagnostic tools of peripheral arterial disease in diabetes.

February 2026 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In February 2026, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released five Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned hysteroscopic removal of endometrial polyps and submucosal fibroids, magnetic resonance enterography for Crohn's disease, oxygen saturation in critically ill children, paravertebral and thoracic epidural blockade for post-thoracotomy pain and Artificial Intelligence technologies for assessing skin lesions.

The 2026 DRG catalog released in Germany

On November 20, 2025, the Institute for the Hospital Remuneration System (InEK) published the DRG catalog (Fallpauschalen-Katalog), which includes the list of DRGs and additional reimbursement categories (ZEs) for 2026. Five new DRGs were introduced in the diagnostic imaging, men’s health, nephrology and urology, and radiotherapy fields. No new MedTech-related ZE categories were added to the catalog.

The Hybrid DRGs catalog for 2026 approved in Germany

On November 13, 2025, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) announced that the 2026 Hybrid DRGs catalog had been approved. A total of 47 new Hybrid DRGs were added, including those for appendectomy, cholecystectomy, as well as minimally invasive procedures on the coronary arteries and peripheral vessels. In the area of orthopedic procedures, Hybrid DRGs have been expanded to include fracture osteosynthesis

Two thematic horizon scans in the cancer field were launched in Sweden

In October 2025, the Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) launched two new thematic horizon scans focusing on cancer care. The scans aim to identify innovative medical technologies that may be evaluated within the national Orderly introduction framework for medical technologies. Stakeholders, including industry representatives, are invited to submit proposals by November 30, 2025.

Decision on the update of the CCAM Classification published in France

On October 18, 2025, the Decision of the National Union of Health Insurance Funds (UNCAM) on the update of the list of procedures and services covered by the Health Insurance, including the CCAM Classification, was published. The updates do not include new codes and concern adjustments of tariffs and billing rules for conventional radiology procedures. The Decision also implements the update of technical packages for CT scanners, MRIs, and PET scans set by the Medical Convention.
