Market Access Case Study
Executive snapshot
Client:
Med Tech corporation
Geography:
8 European countries
Objective:
Clarify the reimbursement landscape and define a strategy to establish robotic surgery in several new indications
Method:
Multi-country reimbursement assessment and market access strategy development to inform internal prioritization and evidence generation
Timeline:
12 weeks from project kick-off
Situation

A MedTech company was expanding its robotic surgery platform into several new clinical indications. To support decision-making, the company needed a clear view of the current reimbursement situation across key European markets, the major gaps preventing access, and the actions required to establish reimbursement pathways for novel indications across multiple countries.

The client engaged MTRC to assess the reimbursement landscape and develop a market access strategy that would guide internal market prioritization and evidence generation activities.

What MTRC did

MTRC assessed the reimbursement environment in each country, including procedure coding, payment mechanisms, reimbursement tariffs, and relevant policy and HTA considerations. This analysis identified markets with more favorable conditions, such as existing procedure codes or the incremental tariff adjustments, as well as markets where substantial barriers existed for specific indications.

Based on these findings, MTRC developed a tailored market access strategy for each geography, focused on closing reimbursement, payer/decision-maker, and HTA-related gaps. Recommendations outlined the most viable access pathways, expected timelines, evidence requirements (clinical and health economic), key stakeholders who would typically initiate each pathway (industry vs physicians/clinical societies), and critical deadlines to achieve target implementation windows.

Following delivery, MTRC incorporated client feedback and completed final refinements through full project acceptance.

Results

MTRC delivered a comprehensive, multi-country assessment of reimbursement conditions and a practical strategy to establish and improve market access for robotic surgery across several new indications in eight European markets.

Impact

The project enabled the client to prioritize European markets based on market access feasibility, strengthen internal business planning and decision-making, and define evidence requirements to support reimbursement and broader market access activities for robotic surgery in novel clinical indications.
